How Worldwide Express automated freight exceptions with Amazon Bedrock
According to AWS. Worldwide Express collaborated with AWS to deploy a multi-agentic AI solution integrated into its transportation management system.
- • Worldwide Express built a multi-agentic AI solution using Amazon Bedrock that integrates directly into the SpeedShip transportation management system.
- • The system routes billing exceptions to three specialized AI agents handling invoice matching, pricing variances, and accessorial validations.
- • After six months, the company achieved a 75 percent reduction in active exceptions, $1M in annual savings, and a $10M free cash flow infusion.
The Challenge
In LTL freight, roughly 14 percent of invoices fail the standard three-way match between the purchase order, the goods receipt, and the carrier invoice. For Worldwide Express, exceptions fell into line-item mismatches, pricing variances, and unexpected accessorial charges, consuming significant FinOps bandwidth.
System Design
The solution runs on AWS, utilizing Amazon Bedrock for AI reasoning and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud as the engine. When an exception is detected, the system routes it to one of three specialized agents that pull carrier billing rules and policies before making a recommendation.
Reported Results
Six months after implementation across more than 40 LTL carriers, Worldwide Express reported a 75 percent reduction in active exceptions, a four-week improvement in time-to-cash, $1 million in annual savings, and a one-time $10 million free cash flow infusion.
