AWS Introduces Data-Driven Auto Scaling for TTS on SageMaker AI
According to AWS. AWS provides a new framework to replace guessed auto-scaling targets with empirical measurements for text-to-speech deployments.
- • Replaces guesswork with Q_max and T_total measurements for precise scaling thresholds.
- • Leverages native ConcurrentRequestsPerModel metrics to ensure reliable auto-scaling behavior.
- • Uses AWS CDK to gate production deployments until performance measurements are verified.
The Challenge of TTS Scaling
AWS states that traditional auto-scaling policies for text-to-speech (TTS) often rely on guessed target values, which can lead to silent failures. Because TTS requests hold connections open for several seconds without a token-generation loop, standard metrics used for LLMs are ineffective, often resulting in either idle GPU resources or breached service level objectives during traffic spikes.
Measurement-Based Deployment
The new solution deploys the Kokoro-82M model in a custom container, using two specific measurements—Q_max and T_total—to derive scaling thresholds. By utilizing the native ConcurrentRequestsPerModel metric published by Amazon SageMaker AI, the system avoids the complexity of custom metric instrumentation and ensures that scaling policies are only synthesized once a feasible performance plan is established.
