Amazon Quick Sight Adds GeoJSON Support for Points and Routes
According to AWS. New geometry types enable users to plot specific locations and paths directly onto layer map visuals.
- • Layer maps now support Point and LineString GeoJSON geometry types.
- • Users can visualize specific paths like delivery routes or flight trajectories.
- • GeoJSON files are limited to a maximum size of 100 MB.
- • Data integration requires a shared join key between the dataset and GeoJSON file.
Expanded Geospatial Visualization
Amazon Quick Sight has updated its layer map visuals to include support for Point and LineString geometries. While previous iterations focused on custom shape layers like sales territories, this update allows for the plotting of individual facility sites and the paths connecting them. This functionality is designed to help businesses identify patterns related to movement, such as shipping lanes or pipeline segments.
Implementation and Configuration
To implement these features, users must provide a GeoJSON file alongside a Quick Sight dataset, linked by a shared key. The system allows for precise control over the viewport and visual styling, including line width and opacity. While point maps offer automated geocoding, the new GeoJSON point layer provides explicit coordinate control, enabling users to lock maps to specific geographic regions.
