AWS Announces Low-Latency Speech Streaming for AI Agents Using Kokoro TTS
According to AWS. New integration enables real-time audio synthesis by streaming individual sentences from AI agents via Amazon SageMaker AI.
- • Stream individual sentences to Kokoro-82M for immediate audio synthesis.
- • Utilize bidirectional WebSocket connections to maintain session persistence.
- • Deploy Kokoro-82M on SageMaker AI using mid-tier GPU instances for cost efficiency.
- • Implement incremental chunking to process text fragments as they arrive from the agent.
Addressing Voice Agent Latency
AWS has detailed a solution to mitigate the delay often experienced in AI voice interactions where users wait for full text generation before audio synthesis begins. By streaming sentences to the Kokoro-82M text-to-speech model as they are produced, the system enables audio playback to start before the agent finishes its complete response, significantly improving user experience.
Technical Implementation Details
The Kokoro-82M model, which contains 82 million parameters, is hosted on Amazon SageMaker AI real-time endpoints using ml.g5.xlarge GPU instances. The architecture supports bidirectional streaming, allowing for persistent sessions that handle multiple sentences sequentially without the overhead of reconnecting, thereby maintaining low latency throughout the conversation.
